We Look Forward to Welcoming You Back to Ulta Beauty

I hope this finds you well and staying safe. As I’ve shared throughout this journey, your safety and the safety of our associates are our top priority. Since our stores closed in mid-March, our teams have been planning how to reopen – not just when – and keeping your wellbeing as our top consideration with every decision. With that in mind, today I am writing to share an update about our reopening approach and the first steps we are taking to welcome you back to Ulta Beauty.

We recently launched Curbside Pickup, which is now available at more than 700 Ulta Beauty stores and will be opening at many more stores in the coming weeks. An extension of our already popular Buy Online Pickup in Store service, we worked to make this limited-contact, drive-up shopping experience as convenient and safe as possible for you to get all your beauty favorites. Visit our site to learn more about where we offer Curbside Pickup.

This week, we reopened approximately 180 stores, and several of those offer hair services in our salons. As part of our thoughtful, phased reopening approach, each store was chosen after careful consideration of many factors, most importantly our ability to welcome you back safely. Check ulta.com to find reopened stores near you and the shopping options and services at each. Of course, we will let you know when stores in your area reopen.

We want you to feel safe and comfortable when you’re shopping. Our teams have worked with government and health officials and other retail leaders to bring the best shopping experiences to our stores. These practices, our Shop Safe Standards, include but are not limited to the following:

  • Face Coverings: Associates are required to wear them, and we ask you to as well.
  • Testers are Unavailable: Please don’t touch or use them as they are for display only.
  • Increased Cleaning: We frequently clean and disinfect our stores throughout the day.
  • Hand Sanitizer: Available throughout the store for your use.
  • Social Distancing: Practice appropriate distancing of at least six feet. To support this, we will have limited occupancy throughout stores.
  • Salon Safety: Where available, hair services are by appointment only and with increased safety measures.
  • Associate Wellness: Associates will participate in daily wellness screens before their shifts.

As testers will be unavailable, remember GLAMlab®, our interactive virtual try-on experience in the Ulta Beauty app, puts discovery at your fingertips as a convenient, safe alternative. Whether in-store or at home, GLAMlab makes shade matching and color swatching simple and really fun!

As we open stores, in appreciation for our healthcare heroes’ tireless efforts to keep us all healthy, we will offer them a half price haircut and style. Healthcare heroes with a work ID can enjoy this service within the first month their local Ulta Beauty store is open. Another way we’re showing our gratitude is with the more than 85,000 beauty items we’ve shipped to ten national organizations serving healthcare workers across the country. These small acts reflect our big, heartfelt thanks to those taking care of us all.

We take our responsibility to make our stores safe seriously and believe our measured approach offers you options to shop in the ways you prefer. In addition to curbside pickup, as we continue to reopen stores, we’ll offer Buy Online Pickup in Store and of course, you can continue to shop on ulta.com or the Ulta Beauty app.

On behalf of the entire team at Ulta Beauty, thank you for your continued loyalty, support and passion for All Things Beauty™. We will keep listening, learning and moving forward together on this journey. We look forward to seeing you again soon, however you choose to shop with us. Let’s continue to take good care of each other.

Business Update: Ulta Beauty Introduces Curbside Pick Up in Select Stores, App & Ulta.com Still Open for Business

As our stores remain temporarily closed, the Ulta Beauty team continues to work hard to determine how we can safely deliver beauty essentials to our guests. With every discussion and decision, I want you to know we are keeping the safety of our guests and associates as our top priority.

Today, I am excited to share we have confidently begun Curbside Pick-Up in select stores where we have determined it is safe to do so. The Curbside Pick-Up offering is an extension of our already popular Buy Online Pick Up in Store service so guests who have used that service will find the process familiar. This new, convenient option is meant to deliver beauty essentials as easily and safely as possible to our guests in these markets right now. All guests can continue to shop at ulta.com or on our app.

We carefully selected more than 350 stores where this service is now available based on an extensive evaluation of local market conditions, including guidance from local and state authorities. We look forward to expanding this service to additional stores in the coming weeks. To do this right, we have and will continue to implement robust health and safety protocols with our local store associates to ensure all orders are handled following CDC guidelines, limiting contact between our guests and teams.

We also look forward to re-opening our stores as soon as it safe to do so. As the impact of COVID-19 varies by region, it is likely we will reopen stores in some states and markets before others with safety for all as our key criteria. We are working diligently towards the time when we can welcome all our guests and associates back to Ulta Beauty with new safety processes in place. Until then, let’s take good care of each other.

Business Update: Stores Remain Closed, App & Ulta.com Still Open for Business

In these uncertain times, we continue to keep you and our associates at the heart of every decision we make. We are closely evaluating this fluid situation and following guidance from public health officials and government agencies to inform difficult but important decisions.  To that end, I’d like to share an update on how we are continuing to adapt in order to protect your health & safety.

Our stores will remain temporarily closed until the time when we can safely reopen. As this situation is ever-changing, it’s difficult to predict when that day will be. Because of this, with thoughtful consideration, we have decided to transition many of our store and salon associates to temporary furlough beginning April 19. We know this action has great impact on our talented, dedicated associates who are the heart of our company. Furloughed associates are eligible to apply for unemployment benefits, which were recently increased with the passing of the federal CARES Act.

We look forward to the time when we can safely welcome associates back to our stores and until then, we will do all we can to make sure they are supported. This includes support through the Ulta Beauty Associate Relief Program, which is part of the Ulta Beauty Charitable Foundation. The program provides monetary grants to associates facing personal hardships; we recently expanded grant criteria to include those in need of assistance due to a personal hardship as a result of a COVID-19. We are very proud of what this program has done for associates in the past and how it helps us take good care of each other today and in the future.

Our store closure reflects our responsibility to help protect the health and wellbeing of you, our associates, and the communities we serve. Until it is safe to enjoy the in-store experience again, we invite you to shop at ulta.com or on the Ulta Beauty app.

As you place orders, our associates in the Ulta Beauty distribution centers are working hard to get your orders filled, out the door, and to your homes safely. In recognition of their continued commitment to our essential operations, we recently shared that associates actively working at our distribution centers are receiving a $2-per-hour wage premium. To protect these associates, we have elevated our already high levels of sanitation and safety, including social distancing and increased cleaning protocols in alignment with guidelines from the CDC.

I want you to know that we will press forward with careful consideration at every turn. We will stay true to our company values with continued optimism for the time when we can safely welcome you and all of our associates back to Ulta Beauty. Until then, let’s take good care of each other.

Updated 3/17/20
Things have been changing very quickly with the coronavirus (COVID-19) situation in the U.S. We’ve been closely monitoring and making changes along the way, as we take very seriously our responsibility to help care for and protect our associates, our guests, their families and the communities we serve. Because of this, we will be taking an important next step to temporarily close our Ulta Beauty stores across the U.S. as of 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 19 until at least Tuesday, March 31. Additionally, buy online pickup in store will not be available during this time. If you’re shopping remotely, you can continue to visit us on our Ulta Beauty app or at Ulta.com.

We understand the impact this will have on our guests and we want you to know how much we appreciate your flexibility and understanding. We also understand the impact this will have on our associates, who are at the heart of our company. To care for them during this unprecedented time, we will continue to pay our store and salon associates, as well as provide benefits for those who are currently enrolled.

I want to make sure that our guests and associates know there is nothing more important than our collective health and safety. We look forward to the time when we can re-open our stores, bring our associates back together, and invite you back in to Ulta Beauty. Until then, please take care of yourselves, your loved ones, and others who may need help.

Updated 3/15/20
During this continually changing time, we have two updates to share with all of you. First, we will be reducing our hours of operation to 10am – 6pm in Ulta Beauty stores across the country. Note, we may have additional changes to hours in certain locations, so we encourage you to call your local store or check store hours here. As a reminder, we do have Ulta Beauty stores that are temporarily closed in certain locations. Please check ulta.com/storeupdates for a list of those stores.

Second, we will be temporarily discontinuing all hair services in our stores as of Monday, March 16. We’ll be working with guests who have appointments to reschedule for a later date. We greatly appreciate your understanding and flexibility.

As a precaution and in partnership with local and state authorities as well as public health officials, we have temporarily closed Ulta Beauty stores in certain locations. Please check ulta.com/storeupdates for a list of those stores. We also may have changes to store hours in certain locations; you can call your local store or check store hours here. During this time, we encourage guests to use our Ulta Beauty app or ulta.com as an alternative way to shop Ulta Beauty.

In addition, based on the advice from health professionals, we are also asking our associates based in our corporate offices to work remotely at least through Friday, March 27.

We know this is on the top of all our minds right now and we thank you so much for your understanding as we all try to keep each other safe and healthy. As things are changing quickly, we’ll continue to closely monitor, take action and update you as needed.

Updated 3/12/20
Out of caution, we are taking the additional step of temporarily stopping our skin, makeup, brow, lash and waxing services. Additionally, we’ll have a no-touch approach when it comes to selling assistance like shade matching. Hair services will continue, and we’ll be increasing our focus on hand washing, chair and hard surface cleaning before and after every guest, and tool sanitization. If you have a hair appointment and you’re not feeling well, please reschedule. We’ll be monitoring the situation closely and hair services may be modified in certain areas; please check with your local store for more information.

With our guests, associates, and their families at the center of everything we do as a company, I’d like to take the time to address concerns about the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) and the steps we’re taking in our stores, our corporate office, and our distribution centers to continue our focus on keeping people safe and healthy.

We’re closely monitoring the situation and following guidance from public health officials and government agencies, including the Centers for Disease Control and the World Health Organization, so we can make ongoing assessments and stay in constant communication with our associates to provide information and guidance as developments unfold.

The cleanliness of our stores is always a top priority for us, and now more than ever. In addition to our regular cleaning procedures, increased sanitization measures are being added to all locations with extra attention to product testers and high traffic areas. For any guest wanting to use a tester or trial a product, please ask an associate to assist you.  In addition, GLAMlab, our virtual try-on experience in the Ulta Beauty App, is a great way to virtually explore, try on, and test colors and shades.

With our hair, skin, brow, and makeup services, hygiene is always a focus and we’re taking additional steps here as well. For guests who have services booked, we’re happy to reschedule your appointment for a later date. We encourage you to reschedule if you’re not feeling well. Also note that some services may be temporarily unavailable in certain areas; please check with your local store for more information.

Associate care is always at the core of our commitment. For all store, corporate, and distribution center associates, we continue to be flexible, continue to focus on prevention, and continue to encourage them to stay at home if they are not feeling well. Additionally, U.S. travel has been limited, and international travel restricted.

We understand this situation is top of mind for all of us right now. As circumstances continue to change, our goal is, and will continue to be, to provide a safe and welcoming destination for all guests and associates across our communities.
